The wireless carrier has fully shut down the app and transitioned completely to the T-Life app (via Android Authority). If you try to launch the old T-Mobile app, it won’t connect to your account services and will direct you to upgrade to T-Life. This will be the only way to access your account services from now on.

This is part of T-Mobile’s push toward digital account management. Customers will need to use the new T-Life app to access their accounts, make payments, and take advantage of promotions like the popular T-Mobile Tuesdays. The core functionality of the app remains the same as the old T-Mobile app, but it has been rebranded, and multiple features consolidated in the new app.

To be fair, we saw this coming back in November. At that time, there were two apps running side-by-side: the T-Mobile app and the T-Life app. Then the carrier removed the older T-Mobile app from the Play Store, but it still worked for anyone who already had it on their device. Not so anymore. The app is now completely dead.

There’s no purpose now in keeping the old T-Mobile app on your phone. It doesn’t work. There will be no more updates for it. All it is doing is taking up space.

The physical stores are also gone

T-Mobile’s push to become digital-only has raised some eyebrows. The company began shuttering most of its physical stores and all of its kiosks back in 2023, laying off hundreds of people in a massive restructuring. At the time, the company said it wanted to meet customers where they were, which wasn’t at the money-losing physical stores.

In their place, T-Mobile launched several signature stores in key markets, designed to wow customers, and upgraded its existing Experience Stores. The company also partnered with third-party retailers to push T-Mobile services in what it calls “express stores.” But other than that, a customer’s entire relationship with the carrier will be online, through the T-Life app.

This is the end of an era for T-Mobile, which used to style itself the “un-carrier.” While the switch to digital-only has been gradual, this final step makes it clear that if you want to manage your

T-Mobile account
, there’s only one app that matters now.
